Visa Rights

 

Although Nepal has a liberal visa policy, which gives visitors an easy and convenient way to obtain tourist visas upon arrival, the Nepal government still has the right to either grant or not to grant a foreigner with a visa upon arrival to any of its entry points. Moreover, there are countries with which Nepal has reciprocity ties other than India, allowing free entry of people without the need for a visa. Other countries that can enjoy this free-entry agreement to that country include Nigeria, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Cameroon, Somalia, Liberia, Ethiopia, Iraq, Palestine, Afghanistan.

 

Nepal Visa Requirements – Tourist Visa

 

  • Eligibility

Tourists traveling to Nepal are eligible for the Tourist Visa upon arrival at its points of entry.

 

  • Validity

Tourists are only allowed to stay in the country for a maximum period of 150 days per visa year (January to December). The visa is issued and valid for a period specified on it, but tourists are allowed to extend their stay but not exceeding the maximum period required.

 

  • Application

Nepal Visa application should be submitted before the Immigration Officer at any of its Port of Entry or you may forward it to any of Nepal’s Diplomatic Missions or Consuls overseas. However, for your application for the extension of your visa, it must be submitted to the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu or to the Immigration Office in Pokhara.

 

  • Visa Fees

  1. a) The US $ 25 for 15-day Visa
  2. b) US$ 40 for 30-day Visa
  3. c) US$ 100 for 90-day Visa

 

  • Additional Information

Any tourist departing the country before the expiration date indicated on the visa issued for the current visa year cannot use the visa by carrying over the unused period to the next visa year.

 

Nepal Visa Requirements – Non-Tourist Visa

 

  • Eligibility

Foreigners, and their family members, who are involved in the development and diplomatic works in Nepal and who have working permit to work in the country. For a complete list of eligible persons, you can visit Nepal’s Immigration Department website.

 

  • Validity

Non-tourist visas issued to eligible foreigners can be used for a period not exceeding one year from the date of application. However, requests for an extension can be granted depending on some circumstances.

 

  • Application

Nepal Visa application should be submitted before the Department of Immigration with the required recommendation coming from the concerned Ministry or Department of GON.

 

  • Additional Information

Only the Director-General of the Department of Immigration of Nepal is authorized to issue a non-tourist visa to eligible foreigners.
